2013 release from the multi-platinum Country band. Life As We
Know it marks the bands 20th Anniversary and sees the return of
original vocalist Richie McDonald. Known for merging their
Country roots with strong melodies and rich vocals, Lonestar has

since their national launch in 1995 and achieved 10 #1 country
hits. The new material sounds as thrilling as any of the bands
classics. Life As We Know It is the follow-up to 2010s Party
Heard Around the World, which was recorded with singer Cody
Collins, who stepped in after McDonald left to pursue a solo

If you slapped up “Wanted” posters for all the great outlaw country singers,
David Allan Coe is the one no lawman would want to tangle with. A denizen of
the state of Ohios penal system from the age of nine until 27, Coe has
charted probably the most uncompromising course of any artist in popular
music, provoking charges of misogyny, indecency (e.g. his infamous X-Rated
Hits) and racism (a charge Coe strenuously denies), while at the same time
recording and writing some of the most radical and personal country music ever
waxed. At first glance, Texas Moon, which was released in 1977 but recorded
before Sun Records sold Coes contract to Columbia, is the product of “bad”
David not only does the “Moon” in the title refer to the prominently displayed
naked posteriors of Coe and band (and dog) on the front cover, but the back
cover displays his prison record and mug shot. But this record actually plays
it straight; its a beautiful assortment of originals and well-chosen covers,
played with a sound and authenticity that latter-day alt-country bands would
die for. Our Real Gone reissue of this long-lost album features notes by Chris
Morris its a fascinating recording from a multi-faceted artist.

Hank Williams III and Curb Records had a contentious relationship through most
of the 14 years he was signed to the label, and Curb hasnt exactly been going
out of its way to get in his good graces since hes moved on. Long Gone Daddy
is the second “new” Hank Williams III Curb has released since his contact with
the label ran out at the end of 2010; 2011s Hillbilly Joker was a slightly
reworked version of a hardcore punk/metal album Curb refused to release when
it was originally submitted, and 2012s Long Gone Daddy is a set of old-honky
tonk tunes featuring unreleased outtakes from Williams first two albums for
Curb, Risin Outlaw and Lovesick, Broke and Driftin, filled out with material
drawn from various compilations and a duet with Joey Allcorn from the latters
album 50 Years Too Late. Given the cut-and-paste nature of this album and the
fact the bulk of it was previously deemed unworthy of release, the pleasant
surprise is that Long Gone Daddy isnt bad at all. Hank III is a sure hand
with old-school honky tonk numbers, and the covers of classics by Merle
Haggard, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, and Hanks grandfather Hank Williams,
Sr. are great stuff, sung with all the twangy commitment they deserve. Hank
IIIs own “What They Want Me to Be,” like Allcorns “This Aint Montgomery,”
suggests that his philosophical differences with Curb were there right from
the start in their tales of struggling against the Nashville mainstream. And
with the absurd dance remix of “If the Shoe Fits” that closes the album, the
label twists their knife into Williams one more time. For fans who prefer Hank
IIIs purer hillbilly style over the more rock-oriented material that has come
to dominate his work, most of Long Gone Daddy will be a short (33 minutes) and
sweet reminder of his earlier and less frenetic days, but its difficult for
anyone who cares about Williams music to not see this and Hillbilly Joker as
blatant displays of disrespect toward an artist who dared to follow his own
creative path.

Gretchen Wilson has the kind of back story the world loves: a young girl who
never got past the eighth grade grew up in trailer parks waitressed and
bartended in bars and clubs to get by and sang on the side in cover bands
suddenly bursts onto the country scene and becomes an instant star with a
single song. Released in 2004 Redneck Woman an iconic song that celebrated
just such a ragged trailer park life and did it with resilient pride
instantly put Wilson on the celebrity fast track and she handled it as well
as anyone could have when all was said and done. Yeah Sony dropped her in
2009 when she failed to generate another million-seller like Redneck Woman
but Wilson rebounded nicely starting her own label Redneck Records and with
three albums due in 2013 she’s firmly in charge of her own career for the
first time. This set features rock covers from the ’70s and one can easily
imagine Wilson singing these songs in a smoky bar in her native Illinois
fronting a cover band wowing the locals with her energy sass and verve and
no one realizing yet what it would all come to down the road. These are pretty
faithful-to-the-original renditions with Wilson showing her range and passion
on Rod Stewart and Ron Wood’s Stay with Me Jackson Browne’s Doctor My
Eyes the James Gang and Joe Walsh’s Funk 49 and closing out things with
a sweet mostly acoustic and very effective version of Van Morrison’s Into
the Mystic. Nothing here adds to the original versions of these songs but
Wilson and her band attack them with energy and reverence and if one should
happen to see them doing these songs in some juke joint bar well it would
make for a sweet night of music the kind any redneck woman would probably
love. Wilson has earned her freedom and if Under the Covers isn’t likely to
put her back at the top of the charts it’s obvious she’s having a whole lot
of fun not worrying about any of that at al

Skagway is a modern bluegrass duo that is steeped in
tradition. In the relatively short time the band has been
together they have become a mainstay of the Vancouver
Island bluegrass and folk music scene

Skagway is known for their powerful original songs and
instrumentals their fast picking and their energetic
stage presence. As the core of the band Ira Pelletier and
Tad Ruszel have a hard driving rhythm that they mix with
their own brand of soulful harmony. They engage audiences
with their witty banter and bountiful stage presence

fun singing and picking this is a band you do not want to

Their first album Wine in the Cupboard was realeased in
July 2011

Skagway has been invited to play such festivals as the
Coombs Country Bluegrass Festival The Sooke River
Bluegrass Festival The Lighthouse Bluegrass Festival and
the Islands Folk Festival to name a few

Bringing lots of young energy to the stage they arrive
complete with their own audience. Mixing traditional
bluegrass and newgrass together they have created their

You boys should be mighty proud of what you’ve achieved
here as it’s a wonderful contemporary bluegrassroots
album that can stand up to anything released in this arena
in recent years. The playing from all concerned
especially you two wizards is exemplary; the songs are
really beautiful and I love the balance between the vocal
tunes and the instrumentals. The production is clean and
crisp and the packaging is just perfect to enhance the

In recent years Murphey has been exploring the similarities between Bluegrass
and American cowboy music. But for Red River Drifter he brought in some very
eclectic and unexpected elements to the writing process. “I wrote songs that
drew from what is inspiring me at this point in my life” he says. “Every
style was fair game. We intentionally did not follow formulas or rules.”
Murphey has received multiple Grammy nominations during his incredible career
including one for Best Bluegrass Album for his Buckaroo Blue Grass album in
2009. He has also earned six gold albums and performs more than 150 shows per
